Embrace Your Inner Random and see the JOY it can bring

Well – hello to all and welcome back to the blog.

Today I would like to touch upon one of the most JOY inducing experiences I have ever had – and one that I have not experienced often. In fact I am experiencing it right now.

Quite unexpectedly.

Quite easily.

Quite simply.

I am sitting here feeling enlivened, happy and full of beans.

So what is this JOY inducing act I hear you ask?

Well the answer is quite amazing to me…….

It is quite simply what I call Randomness.

That is right.

The simple act of waking up and spending my day in a way that was totally unexpected, random, unplanned and spontaneous.

To those of you who engage in the act of spontaneity often, this blog may seem a little mundane ha ha. But to me – Queen of the Planned and Scheduled Life, the discovery of being truly spontaneous has caught me a little unawares.

So here I am – sitting on a flight to Queensland – only 3 hours after waking up to another sunny Sydney day, with no plans to go anywhere at all – let alone to another state.

Only 3 hours ago, I was in my local Sydney coffee shop buying my regular latte and having my usual morning chat.

Only 3 hours ago, I was contemplating a “ not so unusual “ day.

Only 3 hours ago I was feeling a little underwhelmed by the “ hum drum” of life.

Only 3 hours ago I was considering the day ahead and all the work I had sitting on my office desk:

  • Reports to be written
  • Taxes to be done
  • Blogs to be written
  • Appointments to be kept and made

Then quite suddenly and rather randomly, I considered the fact that a dear friend of mine was visiting Australia from the UK and had three days spare before he had to start his working week.

And he was sitting in a hotel room at the Gold Coast.

And here I was sitting in my office in Sydney.

I considered that I had not seen this dear friend for a good ten years or so.

I considered that my appointments could wait.

I considered that my tax was not going anywhere anytime soon and would be waiting in its neat little pile, for my due consideration when I returned.

I considered that for the next week, all my work obligations were “ administrative in nature “ and could be done from my laptop anywhere.

I considered that I did have some scheduled appointments that required me to be in Sydney – but heh – they were not urgent and could be rescheduled.

I had the realisation, that the beauty of creating a “ self employed” existence was that I could choose to re-create my week.

Re- create my day.

Re-create THIS day!

So – after a quick call to my best friend, who encouraged me to get on a plane, I threw a heap of stuff into a suitcase, booked a flight and flew off to Queensland.

Done.

In a matter of hours and with a simple click on a button.

Flight booked. Taxi hailed. Checked in. On plane. Off plane. Arrived.

What could have been “ just another day” quickly became a brilliant day of randomness and catching up with this friend.

So I guess my message today is: Do not be afraid to stray from your plan.

I have realised that sometimes it is those “ unplanned “ moments that bring the most JOY.

Work will always be there.

Things to worry about will always be there.

And if you let them, they can take over – and you can become very rigid in life. And this can block the JOY of spontaneity.

So – relax.

Change plans if you need to.

Put work on hold if an opportunity arises.

Live in the moment.

As I type this I am thinking – note to self ha ha ha. For like I said, this message is brought to you by The Queen of the Planned and Scheduled Life.

So today I invite you to join me on a continued quest for Spontaneity, Freedom and the embracing of all things Random.

May you enjoy the quest.

Discover You Love You Be You – and embrace your inner random

Christine
