Medicine Woman or Medicine Man – what medicine do you give?

Hello hello hello and welcome back to the ABTY Blog,

As most of you would know I recently had the opportunity to spend a full two weeks in the vast red rocks of Sedona. Seeking my soul and expanding my sense of self.

It was one of the most incredible experience I have ever had and along the way I came across many shamans, mystics, teachers, healers and “medicine men”.

I participated in numerous  spiritual activities and was lucky enough to have some wonderful conversations with some very learned people, who were truly connected to the land and their specific culture in a very special way.

I walked among the red rocks and marvelled at the grandness of it all.

I contemplated life and my position in it.

And finally I wondered just what it means to be included in such a group.

Just what it means to be considered a shaman or medicine man.

And then a strange thought came to me.

We are all Medicine Women and Medicine Men.

So what do I mean by this wild proclamation?

How can we all possibly be Medicine Men or Medicine Women?

What skills can we all have as untrained beings to call ourselves such a thing?

The answer to me, is that we all carry within us the Medicine of The Soul.

A medicine so powerful that it surpasses all others.

A medicine so powerful that it should be harnessed and treated with respect.

A medicine so powerful that it should be sought and distributed with care.

And what is more –  we all carry this Medicine of The Soul, that can impact the people around us in such a profound way.

We all carry within us this Medicine of The Soul that has the ability to heal or to destroy.

To raise up or to rip down.

To encourage or to defeat.

To bring joy or sadness.

To foster love or hatred.

To bring compassion or disdain.

We all carry within us this Medicine of The Soul  that can be a refuge in a storm or a cracking bolt of lightning when least expected.

That has this huge capacity for so much good and at the same time so much hurt and pain.

So the question that I want to pose today is this:

What Medicine do you administer to those around you each and every day?

What Medicine do you give out daily?

Healing Medicine that nurtures the Spirit of those around you ?

Or poison that destroys the heart of all those it touches?

Because in my mind, we are all Medicine Men and Women, with the power to choose our medicine every day. We have been given access to this most powerful of all medicines and we simply have to choose what remedies or poisons we mix up and  how we dish it out.

It is such a powerful ability that lies at the very heart of the human experience and one that can have the most extreme effect – and yet, we seem to be a little oblivious to this vast power that lies within each and every one of us.

The Medicine of The Soul is a gift that you have within your reach. A power that is yours to wield as you please. A force to amplify your intention and ripple out to all those around you. So what do you choose to do with this powerful ally? Do you choose to create medicine or poison?

Just what sort of Medicine Woman or Medicine Man are You?
