Observation 101 – The Observation of Self…. and that means You!

Well hello there and welcome back to ABTY,

Today I am going to get straight to the point – and that point is the active betterment of your life experience.

The active betterment of how you exist in the world around you and all that you experience, as you  navigate and interact with everything around you.

For it seems to me that often times we are looking outwardly to improve our lives.

We are looking outwardly to improve how the world interacts with us – instead of looking at how we can change the way we interact with the world.

We are looking outwardly to figure out why things are not working in our lives – instead of looking at what is going on within ourselves that is blocking what we seek from entering our life.

The simple truth is that the only place to find any understanding at all about ourselves and how we exist within the context of our life and the world around us –  is to look inwardly.

But for most of us, it seems it is easier to simply play the blame game and blame everyone else and everything else around us for our dissatisfaction and collisions with life at large.

But as I continually re-discover and contemplate – a lot of  problems and challenges appear to come from deep within. From problems that can be both real and imagined. And the only way to deal with them –  is by going within.  With your head down and bottom up as the saying goes, with a commitment to uncover the underlying causes of how you interact with, and react to the world at large.

I call this process Observation 101: The Observation of Self!

Sometimes pleasant, sometimes alarming and often times surprising – Observation 101 can tell you so much about yourself. And all you have to do is be aware.

Aware of how you react to certain things.

Aware of why you react to certain things.

And aware of what and whom trigger these reactions and situations.

Once you uncover these reactive and interactive behaviours – everything around you seems to fall into a pattern.

A pattern that you can then anticipate.

And a pattern that you can pre-empt and change should you so desire.

I have found that nearly all my perceived negative reactions to things and all my perceived negative   interactions with people and situations come down to three basic things:

  1. fear of not being good enough, pretty enough, successful enough – just not enough
  2. fear of not being seen, heard, listened to and heard  - not valued for my opinion or feelings
  3. fear of not being loved and accepted

And in a way these three things can all go into one pot or concern, which is simply a fear of not being valued by those around me! Not being enough in some way.

So the challenge is to do enough inner work on my own sense of self , that I know with 100% certainty, that I will always feel that I am enough in any given situation or interaction. That I will always feel that I am enough with any other person with whom I come into contact.

So today I invite you to take a good hard look at your own triggers, insecurities, interactions and motivations.

What are they?

What sets you off? Or who sets you off and why?

You might be very surprised to discover that your answers may too, come down to one little fear…

A fear of not being enough! And only you can do the work on your sense of self to squash this lingering self doubt and fear.

But it is a pursuit and a question that I guarantee is worth the time to ponder.
