The Parlour of Procrastination! Are you spending too much time there?

Dear friends,

In recent times I have had a number of challenges both professionally and personally.

Situations that have filled me with fear and dread.

Fear that is all encompassing and at times quite debilitating. Paralysing in fact.

Fear that has left me incapable of organising my way out of a paper bag.

Fear that has left projects languishing in the Parlour of Procrastination – for years!

And what have I discovered?

That the only way to deal with fear is head on.

Proactively and purposefully.

The strangest discovery is that the ” thinking about the fearful situation” is actually far more anxiety inducing, then actually dealing with the situation.

Dealing with the very situation you are dreading.

Dealing with the myriad of things that need to be done to move through the situation successfully.

Dealing with the feelings that come up, as you navigate your way through.

All these things are preferable to ” not doing anything” and avoiding the issue.

Procrastination is the most soul destroying of all activities, as you know deep inside you that you are on a road to nowhere. Like sitting on a bus at the bus station when it says quite clearly ” not in service”.

And when you look at it this way you have to wonder: ” why would anyone do that?”

Why indeed ha ha ha ?

And the answer is simply fear.

Fear that the outcome will not be what you want.

Fear that you will not be good enough.

Fear that it will be too hard.

Well – let me tell you that there is nothing worse than the fear of not knowing.

Like the old saying goes ” There is nothing to fear but fear itself”

Fear of not knowing the outcome to your question or project.

Fear of not knowing if you were good enough.

Fear of not knowing how hard or easy it may have been to get up and give it a go.

So my message today – as someone who has recently walked through some huge fears and come out of them on the other side – is to just do it.

Face your fears head on and take control of your life back.

Move forward. Feel empowered. Regain control.

For no matter how all your challenges pan out, you will have the answers you seek.

You will know what would have happened if you had tried.

You will know the answer to that question you were afraid to ask.

You will know how easy or difficult that project was.

You will know if that new path suited you or not.

The emphasis here is on the obvious:

YOU WILL KNOW

So -

Take the chance.

Take the steps you need to, to tackle that thing you have been avoiding.

Take the chance on approaching that person and asking that question.

Take the chance on a new path.

Because the truth is ” There is nothing to fear but fear itself”
