Embracing the angst and shunning the joy – how whacky is that?

Hello to all and welcome to the blog,

Today’s food for thought is short, sweet and simple.

And it goes something like this….

Why is it that as a society we seem to embrace all the angst we can find and then treat any joy filled person or situation with suspicion and trepidation?

What reason could we, as a collective, possibly have for choosing this state of affairs?

Why do we gravitate to the angst and push away the JOY?

Well – I am sorry to tell you that I do not have any answers to this most strange of behaviours.

I merely wanted  to draw your attention to my observations, so you too, can check out my theory and come to your own conclusions.

Now all you have to do, to try out my theory is take notice of your own behaviour and that of those around you. And I am pretty sure that you will become aware of some pretty strange attitudes and behaviours that seem to have become all pervasive in the human condition and psyche.

For example:

When you ask someone ” Heh – how are you today?” – how do they respond and how do you react?

My observation is that they usually respond with a negative, that invites you into the misery that is their life. And you will happily oblige. Listening to their trials and tribulations, sympathising with theirs and adding in a few of your own challenges for good measure. You have become the ” oh woe is me club – and my life is far worse than yours brigade”. You see this as normal and can then repeat to other people, how terrible this and that is in the world.

Now imagine you ask the same question but this is the exchange:

You: ” Heh – how are you today?”

Friend: ” Fantastic. I can not complain. Life really can not get any better. What a glorious day. You?”

You are most likely thinking at this moment – what is going on with my friend. They can not possibly be that happy? And what am I meant to say now? My life is terrible? And I want to share?

Do you see my point here?

We seem to have become a society that gravitates to misery, negativity and angst.

The media is full of it.

The magazines on display in newsagents are full of it.

Our friends are full of it.

Conversations are full of it.

It appears our lives are full of it.

So my question is this -

Why, why, why would you choose this?

Why not choose the JOY?

Why not choose all the good in the world to focus your attention upon?

Why not see the beauty that is around you everywhere?

Why not gravitate towards the joy instead of the angst?

Why not see the joyful state, as your neutral state of being and existence?

Why not make the swap?

Of course, there will always be the “ups and downs” of life and things can be challenging at times. That is life. But what if you chose to focus more readily on the good and joyous aspects that present in your world.

Like moving from one house to the next – why don’t we all try to move to a place where JOY is the norm.

A place where it is with JOY, that we greet our friends.

A place where it is the JOYFUL things in our lives, that we choose to share first and foremost on a regular basis.

A place where JOY is our dominant thought form.

A place where JOY is the expected state of being.

So what I am suggesting, is that collectively, we give up this addiction to angst.

For as far as I can see, it is not a productive state of being.

Choose JOY. Become JOY. Share JOY.
