A huge Happy Tuesday and welcome to the blog,

Today’s blog is really a simple reminder of the huge benefits joy, laughter and the right mood can bring to your day. Not only in terms of your mental health, general disposition and effectiveness in what you are trying to achieve that day and in that moment, but also the ancillary benefits that this brings to your physical health.

More and more we are seeing research and commentary pointing to the amazing benefits of being joyful and happy and the effect that a positive and uplifted attitude can have on our lives.

Does this mean that we live in a place of delusion where we see everything through a “Pollyanna lense” ? No – not necessarily.

Does this mean that our lives will only be full of what we class as “happy” experiences? No – not likely.

But it does mean that we can try to see through challenges, accept the lessons they bring with them and go through life with a more cheerful disposition in general, accepting that life is a mixture of experiences that gives us a well rounded life education and many opportunities to learn and grow.

So today – if you are feeling a little low or blue – what can you do? Well – first of all you can look for the messages in what you may be experiencing that you perceive as “negative”, and turn the event into an opportunity to grow and learn about yourself.

And secondly – you can turn your mood around with the simple assistance of some good music.

That’s right – bring in the big guns, play some music you love, dance around your living room or office and shake off those winter blues.

Music really is the great equaliser of our time. The greatest assistant you can ever wish for when it comes to simple mood enhancement. So use it.

If you have woken up feeling not so great – think of your favourite song, get it playing and feel your energy shift, your mood change and your spirit soar.

Why?

Because music instantly connects you to your soul, your life force and your energy.

It can get you all happy again with a high energy bop 70′s style – think ” Disco Inferno” or it can calm you beyond measure with the gentle strains of a beautiful harp recording.

It can motivate you and focus you with the steady rock beat of AC DC’s Thunderstruck or bring you to tears with a Celine Dion ballad.

So my point is that music is the greatest ally you have when it comes to changing or enhancing your mood easily and effortlessly  - so do not be afraid to use it.

I have actually created a few different playlists in my i-phone now for every occasion.

I have my ” I love you Christine” list which is designed to get me feeling the love in general. It fills me up and gets me back on track if I am feeling a little negative about myself or the world for instance, and reminds me of all the love that there really is floating about the planet.

I have my rock n’ roll power list, when I just want to get out my old drumsticks, play along on my drumming pads and feel my energy explode out into the cosmos for an hour or so.

I have my meditation tracks that I use when I want to go inward and experience a deeper connection to my soul and that wonderful calm.

I have a collection of harp and new age recordings to play in my house when I want to create a calm and peaceful ambience all around.

I have my favourite upbeat funky tracks for social evenings when friends come to visit.

I have my low key, sort of sad tracks that allow me to feel my grief and sorrow in those low times and let it all out with a huge burst of tears. When I feel that I am all full up of sadness and need to let it out.

And then I have nothing – no music – the stillness of nothingness that I often love when writing. The gentle hum of The Universe that allows me to connect and write and be. This is the most magic music of all to me – the underlying hum of nature.

So – if you are feeling a certain way at any time and you want to change it, or  you need to fully feel that emotion and release it to get your emotions out – perhaps you can look to music. As I like to call it: The Great Mood Modifier

It can lift you up.

It can calm you down.

It can fill you with joy.

And it can bring you to tears.

It can put you in touch with your soul in an instant.

So – get out those i-pods or CDs and make yourself a few lists.

If you desire a really calm environment – start playing really calm, peaceful music in your space and watch how the energy of the space and everyone in it changes.

If you want to motivate the people around you – start piping in the upbeat, inspiring tracks and watch the changes occur around you.

And more surprisingly – playing this music when people are not even in the room can be just as effective. So whilst everyone is out at lunch or out for the day music has been said to imbue the space with this very source energy, that creates the mood desired for when people return to the room, space or home – amplifying the energies and mood. This is something that you can try out for yourself at home.

Perhaps you could try playing some calm tunes prior to the children coming home from school or when your partner returns from work for the day – so the mood is already set and enhanced to reflect your expectations of the time ahead, your own mood and energy levels.

Music is your ally.

Music is the great mood modifier.

Music is a great resource for all.

So drink it in and feel the joy that music can bring to you
