Let age not dampen your enthusiasm – you are never too old.

Well a big hello to everyone,

I recently stumbled upon the most incredible story and just had to share it with you all.

And that is the story of one Mr Harry Bernstein.

If ever there was a story of patience, determination and to trust in Divine Timing – then I guess this is it. But more importantly, it is a story that, for me, shows that often times our most wonderful work , experiences and contributions to the world at large, can come in the latter stages of our lives.

At a time when our current wisdom tries to tell us that we are “all dried up” and ready for retirement or the Pearly Gates, once we reach 60 or so, it is time to really reassess this ridiculous status quo.

As perhaps this is in fact your most fruitful of times.

A time to embrace the world and really run with it.

So   – if you are over 60 [ or even over 40 ha ha ha ] – do not accept this I say.

You have a lifetime of wisdom to bring to the world.

You have a lifetime of dreams that you may still be wanting to bring to fruition.

You have a lifetime of experience, knowledge and empathy to contribute to The Planet.

Now is the best time of your life and it only gets better.

So let Harry be your inspiration……

So what is it about Harry?

Well – Harry Bernstein wrote 40 books but destroyed the manuscripts after they were all rejected by publishers.

Bernstein was 93 when his wife of 67 years died and started writing to help deal with his grief. He spent 3 years writing his memoir “The Invisible Wall.”

He sent the manuscript to many New York publishers, all of whom turned it down. Then he sent it to an editor at Random House in the UK, where it sat in a pile of unsolicited manuscripts for a year before it was read by a stunned publishing director who immediately recognised it as inspired writing. It was published in 2007 when Mr. Bernstein was 98.

He would write three more acclaimed books, all of which were published, up until his death at 101.

Bernstein called his 90s, “the most productive years of my life.”

Is that not one of the most inspiring tales ever?

Is that not one of the best tributes to the resilience and wisdom of age?

Is that not a story that should be shouted form the rooftops ha ha ha?

There is nothing more to be said really – but Bravo and Thank-you Harry Bernstein.

As someone who is at the beginning of her writing career at the grand old age of 45, I am inspired beyond belief.

So what is it that you have always wanted to do?

What dream would you like to fulfil?

What makes your heart sing?

Whatever it is – just get out there and do it.

Write that book.

Get that art book and start drawing.

Start your ballet classes.

Take up Sky Diving.

Study to become a nurse.

Learn to speak French.

Take that trip to Italy.

Walk the Inca Trail.

It is never too late to start something new or reach for a new goal or activity.

The amount of times people tell me that they always wish they had learnt tap dancing is amazing. Burly taxi drivers, swish men in bars, little old ladies at the bus stop, mothers who are so busy looking after their children, teenagers who think it sounds cool…….the list goes on and on.

And I always say to them ” you should go find that tap class and just do it”

So whatever that thing is for you – go find it and do it.

If Harry can do it – then you can too.

#DiscoverYou, #LoveYou, #BeYou

Christine
