The magic of the twilight hour that’s free for you and me

Good morning to all and welcome to Tuesday,

A few days ago I was struck by the most magical time of day – sunset.

The time of day when the sun quietly slips away and rests for the night and the moon comes out to guide us through the evening.

Guiding us into peaceful slumber and the promise of a new day.

Guiding us to introspection and quiet contemplation of the day just passed.

Guiding us to thoughts of rest and the possibilities of the day to come.

For some reason, I was enthralled by this particular bewitching hour and found myself wondering why I had never truly  fallen for its charms before?

“How could that be? ” I pondered.

“What have I been doing for all these past 45 years worth of sunsets – twilights – bewitching hours?” I asked myself.

And then I realised. The penny dropped. I was distracted.

On this particular evening, my attention was taken by the sounds of the crickets in the gardens where I live and the chattering of the birdlife outside. The gentle wash of the twilight sky had captured my imagination and I simply went and sat on my couch.

I did not turn on the television.

I did not turn on the lights.

I did not check my Facebook status or emails.

I did not rush to put my bags away.

I did not rush to prepare my dinner.

I simply went over to my couch and sat there, enthralled with the gentle play of light on my balcony and the last songs of my feathered friends for the day.

If magic exists I had truly found it. Right there on my balcony. And it was free.

The most magical performance of all – the transition from day to night.

And there I sat for the next two hours. Simply allowing myself to become one with all that was around me. I felt like my energy melded into that of the day – and as the day’s energy transitioned into night – so did my energy.

It transitioned into a peaceful, restful, easy space.

It was heavenly.

It was simple.

Our energies transitioned seamlessly in a togetherness that made it difficult for me to extract “me” from ” it”.

I truly felt at one with The Universe.

In a synchronistic transition of energies, that was natural, easy and pure.

It was not until I was surrounded with darkness and the mystery of the night, that I even considered moving from the spot where I was sitting. Transfixed with the gentle beauty of every sound, sight and feeling that surrounded me.

The creatures of the night were now on the stage and the sounds that accompanied them were magical and nurturing to my soul.

After a few more moments I picked myself up from my couch and made my way to my bed, with a tremendous feeling of joy and satisfaction, that I had truly participated in the end of my day.

It was not until the next morning that I really thought about this experience and came to the conclusion that presence was the key to this enjoyment.

100% presence in the moment.

100% presence in this transition from day to night.

100% presence within myself as an energy ……..and then

100% presence  as an energy within this greater force.

I came to see that we really do miss so many of the great gifts that are here for us to enjoy.

Why?

Because there are so many things to distract us from this magical time.

Many of you will find yourself in peak hour traffic at this time.

Some of you will be in the middle of children’s dinners and bath-times.

Some of you may still be at work.

Many of you may be watching the 5 o’clock news.

But maybe – just once a week, you can treat yourself to a full appreciation of the wonder of twilight.

A simple ritual to nurture your soul perhaps?

Even if it is only once a week, a full immersion in this magical time of day is sure to reignite the wonder within you. Fill you with the ebb and flow of life and an appreciation of how effortlessly, what is meant to be will be. It just flows.

Feeling those subtle energies change is a gift. And a gift that you can open each and every day should you choose.

Instead of rushing about in the harsh electrical lights and neon shimmer of this technological age, you can choose to turn off the lights, shut down the technology and simply follow the natural flow of the Universe, allowing your energies to bathe in the cool, crisp recognition of the night.

Life has boundless energy and endless flow, because it is balanced.

Life allows this transition easily and effortlessly.

Life knows where the off switch is and embraces it with ease.

If twilight is difficult for you to encounter alone – then perhaps you may like to try witnessing sunrise – that other dazzling time of day, when the moon hangs up his little night cap and the sun re-emerges to invigorate us for the day.

I now find these two times of day my most enjoyable.

The energy is pure and tangible.

There is a natural lull as this transition takes place.

There is a natural introspection that draws you in to either contemplate the day that is beginning or the one that has just passed you by.

Either way – these are magical times of the day for the uplifting of your soul and connecting to the vast energies of The Universe.

If you can find a way to fully commune with sunrise or sunset as often as possible in your life, you may be surprised at the effect it has.

The magic is there for you to tap into each and every day, wherever you are. You just have to choose to see this magic, experience this magic and be fully in its presence.
