Hello to all and welcome to Friday,
As we head towards the weekend I just wanted to remind you all of the simplicity that sometimes can escape us, as we dash around, in this forever “busy world” we have created for ourselves. A small reminder to truly relax and enjoy your weekend by allowing yourself to experience some moments of true fullness, by – ironically – emptying out the fullness of your plans.
In order to do this, I guess the question I would like you to ask yourself today is simply this:
Do I still take time to enjoy the simple things in life?
And is there space left free in my days to enable me to do so?The reason I am posing two questions here, is that I feel they go hand in hand, so to speak.
I mean – if there is not a flicker of spare time in you calendar and in your day, how can you switch off and enjoy those simple pleasures?
I found myself reflecting upon this after recently catching up with a friend and realising that for many people these days – doing nothing and immersing one’s self in the simplicity of this nothingness is just not an option anymore. Or if it is – it is not one that is recognised, welcomed or pursued.
How often in that moment of nothing do you find yourself reaching for your phone?
How often in that moment of nothing do you find yourself checking Facebook?
How often in that moment of nothing do you find yourself flicking aimlessly through the TV channels in a desperate bid to find a welcoming distraction?
And so – in these moments, how many chances are lost to simply go inward, connect, reflect and be?
I must admit that option three is my most pervasive habit…….that habit of flicking through inane reality shows, back and forth and back and forth and back and forth…..whilst ignoring my actual reality ha ha ha. But why is this so? Why are we so intent on staying distracted? Why is nothing and stillness and the very quiet we seek, so disquieting?
Could it be that we have become so used to the “noise” and 24/7 interaction that now dominates our world that we feel unsettled without it? Have we become addicts of a sort?
Do we need constant endorsement and adulation from those around us via Facebook and other technology driven mechanisms to feel worthy of love and being loved?
Is it that facing the quiet that lives deep within our souls, could reveal things we do not want to see or hear?
Is is that this life full of clutter and distraction, and mindless busyness is holding back the fear of unlocking the floodgates to discovering the child that lies within?
The child who lives in the heart of all that is simple?
The child who yearns to be discovered and nurtured and loved?
Perhaps this “simple life” is not so simple in its requirement for us to be fully present in our own lives – as opposed to being present in everyone else’s?
Perhaps this simple life is avoided because it requires us to be true to who we are and present in every aspect of what represents who and what we stand for?
Perhaps the truth of the simple life is the truth of You……and that’s why it is avoided at all costs?
Without these trappings and distractions – just what will you see?
Without these trappings and distractions – just who will you be?
Without these trappings and distractions – just what lies in wait for you to appease?
So today – I simply invite you to ask some questions over your weekend and take the time to sit in stillness, to be in quiet contemplation and to let the clutter fade from view.
For how can you find the fullness of you, if your world is too full of distractions?
For how can you find the fullness of you, if your world leaves no time and space to reveal it?
For how can you find the fullness of you, if your world is lacking the simplicity required for you to discover this lost element of your soul?
So as with many things in life – perhaps the complexity of your nature, your soul and your wisdom lies in the seat of all things simple. And if that is the case:
As the song says – ” Give me the simple life”
So my final thought for the day is:
Can there be anything more majestic and worthwhile, than the doing of nothing to discover and harness the intrinsic nature and everything of You?
And that is my thought for today and the weekend.
#DiscoverYou, #LoveYou, #BeYou
