The first step is the best step, because it takes you to the next step.

A cheery hello to you all and welcome to Tuesday,

Today I simply want to talk about getting things done and why we don’t.

If you are anything like me,  you can remember many things that have been thoughts in your head, but have sadly and regretfully never made it into the world of your reality.

Things that you just couldn’t get started for some reason.

For instance – have you ever been thinking of doing a project of some sort but the time is just never right?

Have you ever found yourself putting off a project because the end game seems so far away – because it seems impossible to achieve?

Have you ever procrastinated and you are not even sure why ?Well if you answered yes to any of the above – do not fear – you are not alone. You are standing beside many others ha ha.

But why is this so?

Why is it so hard to get started on a new project?

Whether it is signing up for a spanish class, or learning to cook, or starting a new business – why is it often times you simply do not take that first step?

In my opinion, it is simply because you get ahead of yourself. You start asking all these questions that can not actually be answered until you have started the project. You procrastinate and avoid starting because you do not know what step number 15 will be……but meanwhile if you just started at step 1, that would often times lead to step 2 and then that will lead to step 3 and you would be off and running so to speak. Jumping from step 1 to step 15 simply is not viable or a good idea – but for some reason it seems clever when looking to begin.

Sure – if you have a huge development in the works or are planning on investing large sums of money, you need to have a plan and it would be wise to seek financial advice – that is common sense. But I am talking about the little things in life, that can go by the wayside due to a simple fear of the unknown. A simple fear of what comes next.

Take joining the gym for example: you may say – but I don’t know how to use the machines and I don’t have any gym gear and I am not sure how to get there etc etc .

In reality – once you join the gym, you will no doubt be given a programme by a trainer at the gym, they will suggest the correct gym attire and you will be off and running.

Or for instance it may be: learning to cook. You may say – but I have no idea how to cook and I don’t understand how to put the ingredients together etc etc . So – first you might enrol in a cooking class, and then you make new friends who invite you to pot luck dinners and suddenly you are cooking all the time.

There can be any number of things, that seem too hard.

If you asked me now to write a tap dance syllabus, I would  say it was way too big of a job. But years ago, I just started with one page at a time and eventually this incredible 12 DVD, 13 CD, 13 written manuals of written work evolved. Tapatak Oz was born.

But if I had not taken that first step….

If I had not typed up that first page…..

It would never have happened.

But one step led to the next and the next and the next…..and here I am 9 years later with a tap dance syllabus that is now used all over the world and endorsed by the Australian Government in two states.

The same can be said for A Bridge To You.

Do I know where this is going – no I do not. But one step simply leads to another and what started as an idea in my head is now a substantive body of work encompassing 70 blogs. Actually this is blog 71!

Incredible.

How did I get here?…….I just started.

Where am I going? – I have no idea.

Why am I doing it? – because I love it. And that’s enough for me. The end game is not important – it is the joy I get from putting something positive into the Universe each week that matters to me.

Your motivations may be totally different for what you are wanting to do….and only you know what it is that is calling you an why.

But whatever it is – honour that calling and get going.

So – if there is something that you would like to do – especially if it is something that you feel your heart and soul calling you to do. Especially if it is something that you have always wanted to try. Then simply take that first step – because you never know where it might lead.

Adventures – joy – new friends……….who knows?

But one thing I know for sure is that the first step IS the best step, because it leads you to the next step.

#DiscoverYou, #LoveYou, #BeYou

Christine
