You have to have faith in the Great Unknown

Lately I am being told time and time again that I need to relax, trust and know that “not knowing” is part of the grand plan ha ha ha.  To just take one day at a time, with baby steps towards my new goals and all will be revealed when it is good and ready. Apparently everything is going to just fall into place. Opportunities will present themselves, synchronicities will unfold and all will be good in my world.

This message keeps finding me in many ways and through many people and it does not matter where I am, I turn the corner and find this message being placed squarely in front of me again and again and again.

Firstly – the obvious comment applies: yes – I can sometimes be a slow learner ha ha and the Universe is prevailed upon to keep sending me the same clues, to the same piece of the puzzle, time after time. But secondly, and more importantly, although there is a part of me that doubts this truth, there is a much bigger part of me that knows on some sort of “soul level” that this is indeed the truth.

If you are anything like me at all, you will most likely find this concept quite difficult to not only accept and grasp, but to deal with in general. I mean – it leaves you feeling a little disempowered and non plussed, as to exactly what you should be doing to get where you want to go. And I guess the point is exactly that, – you need to simply carry on putting one foot in front of the other, with the little picture in sharp focus, even though the bigger picture may be a huge blurry mess – if it contains any sort of visual clarity at all.

And this is the premise I am now trying to embrace.

When I feel “intuitively” that I should do something – I just go and do it.

Whether it be booking a holiday, taking the day off, writing a blog, starting a new activity or staying in bed till way past “getting up time”. I just trust my intuition these days and go with it. Needless to say I still honour all my commitments and obligations etc – but generally I go with the little picture and trust that it will all feed into the big picture somewhere down the line.

Somewhere down the line in that magical place that I am yet to inhabit.

Somewhere down the line to where, as of yet, I have no idea that I am going.

Somewhere down the line to a new way of being, that is yet to be fully disclosed to me  = the prime player in the story.

It sounds so funny in the present tense  - looking to the future. A bit silly actually. But, if you extend this concept from the present tense, but now extend your vision back into the past, it all seems to suddenly make perfect sense.

And this is a point, that a dear friend of mine made to me, whilst chatting on the phone this afternoon.

She said to me: ” Well – would you ever have thought years ago that you would be writing blogs for  A Bridge To You” ?

The answer to that was a quick and simple: “No”

I have been tap dancing furiously and in quite a tunnel visioned way for many years, and only slowly – very slowly venturing into pastures new……..with no plan and no agenda. So to suddenly find myself here is quite amazing.

But……

If I actually analyse my path from there to here, it is quite easy to see it has been a gradual, step by step, synchronistic affair full of many casual meetings and references and tiny endeavours that have somehow manifested into where I am now. Not so peculiar after all, so it would seem. And I am sure that you will find the same thing to be true if you look backwards and analyse all the tiny steps that have brought you to where you are now in every facet of your life.

You may even find it interesting to do a little time line of your life from high school till now and take a look back over all the “stages” of your life. We all have them.

I have my “school captain” at High School days.

Followed by my Dance College, discovering life in the UK days.

Then comes working back stage at a theatre days.

Then waitressing in Bondi, and teaching tap dance days.

Then playing drumkit, writing columns for dance magazines and writing my tap syllabus Tapatak Oz.

Then examining Tapatak Oz.

Then launching A Bridge to You, teaching Dance for Parkinsons Classes, starting stand-up paddle boarding lessons…….. and that is where I am at right now.

It is funny how it all just flows along – step by step – day by day – week by week – month by month – year by year…….

And before you know it your life is somewhere totally different to where it used to be.

I think sometimes though, that we just do not appreciate the possibility that exists when moving forward, despite already having lived that same change and development – often unplanned – in the past.

So, I guess today I am just saying that you don’t need to plan every minute detail of what you are doing in life, with the grand scheme in full focus at the outset. There is an element of trust and ” whatever will be, will be” involved too. And they both work hand in hand, in some mysterious way that you are not supposed to fully comprehend to bring you to where you need to be.

So take small steps, follow your intuition and trust that whatever you are doing in life, no matter how insignificant, obscure, crazy or unusual it may seem  - it will all be contributing to that overall ” grand scheme of things” in the end.

You are not meant to hold all the cards in this deck.

You are not meant to have all the answers.

You are not meant to be travelling this path alone.

There are other forces at work that have your back and are conspiring to bring you to where you need to be at the perfect place and time, when all is set in motion and as it needs to be.

You can only do your part and trust that the rest is in hand.

You can only get in the car, start the engine and start driving forwards, even though the destination may be a little unclear.

You can only trust in the bigger picture.

So – in those moments of doubt  - instead of looking to an unsure and sometimes confusing future, try looking to the past and recognising all the crazy synchronicities and baby steps that have somehow  and most effectively managed to get you to where you are today.

Relax. Trust. Enjoy the Ride.

You don’t have to know exactly where the bus is going – only that you are on it and it will be a fabulous ride to a great destination.
