From Little Things, Big Things Come………The 5 Essential Ingredients to Success

If you live in Australia, a certain advertisement and the accompanying song, most likely would have raced into your head as you read this title, and I will happily take your thanks or derision depending on your reaction to that ha ha ha.

For some, having a song rolling about in your head all day is a good thing – but depending on your love or not, of the song choice, this can be a ‘not so good thing’ too ha ha ha. Nonetheless – I shall continue on and hope that those of you with no affinity for this particular song will struggle along with us anyways.

For me this song is one with so much promise, and a perfect lyric that can be well harnessed to steer us through our lives and actualise our ambitions.

From little things , big things come

This is such a truism that it really deserves some real contemplation, for the fact is, that most of us race through life barely giving any of those “little things” a chance to truly take root, and grow into the big things that they have the promise of becoming.

We tend to either lose faith, become discouraged, listen to all the doubters [ of which there are always many ] or that old chestnut – simply give in to impatience……my old nemesis ha ha.

But the simple reality is that “Rome was not built in a day” – and anyone who has had any modicum of success in any venture in life, whether personal or professional, will tell you that it did not come easily or without sustained,  well directed efforts. And that is the simple, but not always welcome or acknowledged truth.

If you want something in life you have to put the work and care in consistently and repeatedly over time.

If you want something in life you have to believe that it is possible.

If you want something in life you have to give it a chance.

You have to plant the seed and wait for it to grow – give it a chance to take root and then bloom when the time is right.

Think of it this way…….

Would you plant an entire bed of flowers, wait one day and then if they had not bloomed, rip them all out?

Would you put a cake mixture in the oven, take it out in 5 minutes and expect it to be cooked?

Would you leave your house, only take 5 steps towards the park and expect to be there when it is 4 blocks away?

I am trusting that your answers would have been a resounding “no” to all of the above questions. I mean it would be ridiculous to answer  - yes!

But for some reason when it comes to life, we seem to expect things to “just happen”.

You start a new eating plan, stay on it for 3 days and wonder why your physique has not changed?

You join the gym, go once and wonder why you don’t look fitter?

You start a project, lose interest half way through and stop putting in the required work and wonder why it doesn’t take off?

You start piano lessons, only go for 6 months and wonder why Bach still eludes you?

The simple key to any success, of any sort, is 100% commitment, perseverance and passion with a sustained, suitable and well directed effort over time.

Nothing else will cut it.

Nothing else will give your idea a chance to grow.

Nothing else but time and patience and continued nurturing of whatever it is you are doing, can bring the success you may be seeking and striving for.

So imagine any project you have, whether personal or professional, is a tiny little seed that is planted in the garden of your life.

After you plant it, you need to water it regularly and some people may even suggest that you would do well to speak lovingly to the seed each and every day to encourage and guarantee its growth and strength. Once it has sprouted and made its way to the surface, you will need to shade it from too much wind and be sure that it gets adequate sunlight.

You will need to check for weeds and be vigilant in keeping any bugs away that may interfere with, or even eat your little seed, which has now become a little plant. But most importantly, you must be patient and allow the little plant to find its own way. You must allow the little sapling to take root, draw nutrients, strength and sustenance from the ground in which you planted it, and trust that the sapling will find its way to the sunshine and all that it needs to flourish and grow.

There is only so much you can do – but it is a joint effort.

You must put in the effort and water the plant, but you must also know when to back off and give the sapling or your project / endeavour time to take root, flourish and grow.

Our nature as human beings ,in this modern world, seems to be one of instant gratification. Instant success. Instant results. Instant everything. But life is just not geared that way at all and the sooner your realise this and give your ideas and projects the sustained attention, effort  and passage of time they need to grow and bloom, the happier you will be. [ note to self....pay attention Christine haha ha ]

Sustained Well Directed Effort. Perseverance. Patience.  Self Belief . The Passage of Time.

These are the five essential ingredients to success.

So with that in mind – go forth and live your dreams – with patience and tenacity, safe in the knowledge that staying with something and giving it a good go, over a decent period of time, is what gets results in the end.

And if you are not willing to keep up the effort on a particular project, then I would ask yourself if that pursuit is really that important to you? If the answer is no – then find something else to do with your time, that interests you enough to sustain your efforts and interest.

If you don’t want to do something – you are not going to do it! Simple as that.

So find your passion. Live your passion. Sustain that passion. And then you will see your desires and dreams and visions for your life, come to fruition.

The little seed will bloom and grow and become a huge tree with root systems that reach down far into the earth, to sustain it through all kinds of weather. But you must give it time and the five essential ingredients it deserves to give it a real chance:

Sustained Well Directed Effort.

Perseverance.

Patience.

Self Belief .

The Passage of Time.

These are the 5 ingredients essential to success in whatever way you perceive it.
