Life’s a party – so what did you bring?

A huge hello to all and welcome back to the blog here at ABTY,

Today I have a simple question for you to answer and reflect upon:

If life is a party and you are a guest – what exactly have you brought to this party?

A simple question – yes.

But the answer you give will tell you a lot about yourself.

And as with many of my blogs, the answers you give may or may not be reflective of what you really want those answers to be.

And therein lies the opportunity to build a little more of that ” Bridge To You” by discovering exactly what sort of Party Guest you truly wish to be.

So I invite you now to take a pencil and paper and answer that question as honestly as you can.

……………….give yourself a good 15 – 20 minutes to ponder the question and answer.

………………. make a nice cup of tea and settle in with the question.

………………let your pencil just wander on the page and let the answers spill out without thought, without censor, onto the page before you.

All finished?

Then here comes the interesting part. Read back your answers and mark them all with two different coloured pens:

  1. Let’s say green for – ” yes – happy with that contribution – carry on”
  2. Let’s say red for – ” nope – not happy with that – find a solution and change that to something I would prefer”

Easy.

Done and dusted.

You have now created a little checklist of what you want to ” bring to life”!

And make no mistake – you will always be bringing something to life, so best you make what you bring a conscious decision, of which you an be proud and happy.

So often when I am teaching children these days, I find many of  them waiting for all the excitement to be brought to them…..by me.

Provided by the teacher.

Many of them simply turn up and expect the teacher to put on a show and provide all the energy and enthusiasm for everyone in the room. So I find myself explaining to them now that they need to bring this with them to the class. It won’t all be provided. You get back what you give out. It is a two way stream of effort, energy, enthusiasm, attraction and appreciation.

And I have found this attitude to be a great analogy for life.

Life is a two way stream of effort, energy, enthusiasm, attraction and appreciation.

But the problem seems to be that we tend to expect everyone else to bring the JOY.

To bring the sense of humour

To bring the ideas

To bring the money

To bring the opportunity

To bring the sense of wonder and awe

To bring the adventure

To bring the life

To bring the colour, energy and movement

So I guess at this point I can pose the question:

Just what sort of guest have you been at the Party of Life thus far?

One that shows up empty handed and eats the host out of house and home, complaining at the end of it that the food was terrible, the guests boring and the night a waste of time?

Or the one that shows up with a beautiful home baked cake to say ” thanks for the invite” and then proceeds to do the rounds starting up fun conversations with the other guests, playing DJ for a while and hosting a round of charades?

And only you can answer this question.

So if you are currently not enjoying Your Life Party – perhaps you need to look at just what you are bringing to it and stop waiting for it all to be handed to you on a platter of sorts. Because any party anywhere is what you make of it.

And Life’s Party is no different.

So to finish off – I simply reiterate my opening question:

If life is a party and you are a guest – what exactly have you brought to this party?
